Brighton, Patcham and Falmer
BN1 is the middle of Brighton and a surprising amount of the Downs behind it, from Brighton Station down to the seafront and up to the car park at Devil's Dyke.
The city is most of it: North Laine and The Lanes on the downhill side, Seven Dials and Round Hill on the slope, Preston Park and Withdean where the A23 eases in, Patcham and Hollingbury where the Downs begin to show. Churchill Square is a multi-storey of trolleys and screws. The i360 is a needle on the seafront that you walk past rather than park under.
Falmer and Stanmer sit behind the ridge with the University of Sussex and Stanmer Park. The American Express Community Stadium brings match-day traffic that treats kerbs as optional. Coldean, Hollingdean and Fiveways are the ordinary streets in between, and that is where most of the work actually is.

Town is the city and its suburbs. The edge is Falmer and Stanmer, which still read as villages even with the campus beside them. The open road is the station, the stadium, the i360, the Lanes, the park, the Dyke and Churchill Square — places you stop at rather than live in.

Stopped on the A27, the A23 or the A259?
The A23 comes in through Patcham and Preston Park. The A27 is a short pull north at Falmer. The A259 is the seafront once you are through the one-way system. A blowout on any of the three is still a Brighton job; tell us which road and which direction, not only the district.
