Hove and Hangleton
Drive west along the seafront and the brick changes before the name does: Brighton becomes Hove, then Aldrington, without a gate to tell you.
Brunswick is stucco and tight residents' bays. Poets Corner is terraces and the sort of corners that pinch an alloy. Hove Park and Goldstone Valley sit back from the water. Hangleton and West Blatchington climb toward the Downs. Hove Lagoon is a pond and a car park on the promenade, useful as a landmark and less useful as a place to change a wheel in August.
BN3 on the ground
Town, edge and open road
Town is Hove itself and the suburbs around it, and it runs unbroken all the way up to Hangleton, so there is no village edge in BN3. The open road is the Lagoon, which is where a seafront puncture actually happens, rather than in the shopping streets.

The A259 is still the sea. The A27 is inland, above Hangleton, and it is a longer pull from the promenade than it looks on a map. The A23 is back in Brighton; if you have already crossed into Hove, you are not on it. Hove Lagoon, Hangleton or Brunswick tells us more than BN3 does.
