The questions that actually come up

Brighton. It is our only base; there is no depot or unit anywhere else. A job in Hove or Portslade is a short run. A job in Hailsham, Arundel or Pevensey is a long one, and every district page gives the straight-line distance from the base so you can judge it for yourself.

We do not print a number of minutes on a website, because it would be a guess. When you get in touch we look at where the van is, where you are and what the A27, the A23 or the A259 is doing at that moment, and we tell you honestly then.

Yes. A drive, a street, a workplace car park or a supermarket bay all work, as long as there is firm, level ground beside the wheel and room for the van. On a steep street or a soft verge we may ask whether the car can be moved a short way first, if that is safe.

A nail or screw in the middle of the tread, on a tyre that has not been driven flat, can often be repaired properly from the inside. A cut in the sidewall, a hole near the shoulder, or a tyre that has been run flat cannot. We look at the tyre before we promise either.

It is printed on the sidewall, in a line such as 205/55 R16 91V. The first numbers are the width, the profile and the wheel size; the last part is the load and speed rating. A photo of that line is the most useful thing you can send us.

Yes. Van tyres need the right load index, and on a twin rear wheel both tyres matter. Run-flats come off the same way as any other tyre; they are heavier, and they hide a puncture until the warning light comes on.

Tell us before we set off, so the removal kit is on the van. Most locking nuts come off with the right tool. One that has already been rounded off by an earlier attempt takes longer, and we will say so before we start.

Then it is a recovery rather than a roadside change. A tyre torn apart around the wheel arch, a seized wheel, or a car in a ditch off a lane under the Downs has to be lifted onto a truck. Say so in your first message.

No. We are a mobile service only, so there is nowhere to drop the car off. You stay with the vehicle, or tell us where the key is, and the van comes to it.

Where the car is, as exactly as you can: the street, the car park, or the road, the direction and the last junction. Then what went wrong, the size from the sidewall if you can read it, and whether the locking wheel nut key is in the car.
